Privacy Policy
Effective September 2026
Who we are
RoamFree is a personal, self-funded project built and operated by one person (Ken Nunez). This policy
explains what information RoamFree collects through the app and website at roamfreeapp.com, why, and
what your choices are.
Information you provide directly
- Account information — email address and password (via Amazon Cognito) when you create an account, plus an optional display name and avatar.
- Content you create — saved places, planned routes, vehicle ("Garage") profiles, trail reviews, comments, bug reports, and any places, photos, or notes you submit to the map.
- Photos — images you choose to upload when submitting a location or report are stored so they can be shown to other users.
- Email address if you join the early-access waitlist, separate from a full account.
Information collected automatically
- Location — with your permission, RoamFree uses your device's GPS (fine or coarse location) to center the map and search for nearby places. Location is used to power the app and is not sold or shared with advertisers.
- Basic usage analytics — RoamFree records first-party, aggregate usage data (such as which features are used) to understand how the app is used and to prioritize development. This data is processed on RoamFree's own backend — no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs (e.g. Google Analytics, Meta Pixel) are used.
How this information is used
- To operate the core features of the app: route planning, place search, saved content, and your account.
- To show community-submitted content (places, reviews, photos) to other users.
- To send account-related email (e.g. via Amazon SES) and, if you opt in, occasional product update emails — every such email includes an unsubscribe link.
- To respond to bug reports and feedback you submit.
- To maintain and improve the app's reliability and performance.
Who your information is shared with
RoamFree does not sell your personal information. Limited data is shared only with the infrastructure providers that make the app work:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, authentication (Cognito), database storage (DynamoDB), file storage (S3), and email delivery (SES). All infrastructure runs in AWS us-west-2.
- Google (Maps / Places APIs) — map rendering and place lookups on Android use Google's Maps SDK; queries necessary to render the map (such as your approximate map viewport) are sent to Google under Google's own privacy policy.
- Open-source / public data providers — OpenStreetMap, Open-Meteo, and similar public data sources used to display map, trail, and weather information. These do not receive personal information from RoamFree.
Content you choose to make public (a submitted place, a public trail review, a shared route link) is visible to other users or anyone with the link, by design.
Data retention and deletion
Your account data is retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and
associated personal data at any time by emailing ken.nunez@nolimittechnical.com.
Publicly submitted content (e.g. a place you added to the map) may be retained in de-identified form to keep the
map useful for other travelers, even after your account is deleted, unless you ask for it to be removed.
Your choices
- Location permission can be denied or revoked at any time in your device settings — core map browsing still works, but nearby-search features will require you to move the map or search manually.
- You can update or delete saved content from within the app.
- You can unsubscribe from product update emails via the link in any such email.
- You can request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us (below).
Children's privacy
RoamFree is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "Effective" date above will be updated. Continued use of RoamFree after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
